Róbert Győri is a Habil. Associate Professor at the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences, affiliated with the Department of Social and Economic Geography and Center of Geography at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. His academic work bridges historical and economic geography, focusing on Central European spatial transformations.

Research Focus examines the interplay between geography and geopolitics in East Central Europe, particularly during periods of imperial collapse (e.g., Austro-Hungarian Empire) and post-war boundary reconfigurations (e.g., Trianon Treaty). His publications analyze cartographic practices, regional identity formation, and the socio-political dimensions of geographical knowledge production.
Academic Contributions include critical historiography on Hungarian geography during the 20th century, with emphasis on Sovietization of disciplines, nationalist versus communist ideological influences, and the role of geographical societies in nation-building. His recent work explores comparative regional development in Burgenland-West Hungary and Vienna’s hinterlands.
