Rzgar Jaafar

Rzgar Jaafar is a PostDoc researcher at the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. His research focuses on fish immunology, parasitology, and aquatic pathobiology, with particular expertise in rainbow trout immune responses against various pathogens.

His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Immunology and Infectious Diseases (2013-2017), an M.Sc. in Parasitology (2008-2011), and a B.V.M. and S. from the College of Veterinary Medicine in Iraq (2001-2006).

Jaafar's research interests center on host-pathogen interactions in fish, particularly immune responses against parasites from protozoans to metazoans. His work examines vaccination strategies, dietary immunostimulants, and genetic resistance to diseases in aquaculture settings. He has conducted extensive research on rainbow trout responses to pathogens including Ichthyobodo necator, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Gyrodactylus salaris, and Anisakis simplex.

His publication record shows a consistent focus on fish immunology and disease control, with recent work emphasizing vaccine development, genetic resistance markers, and alternative parasite control methods. The research demonstrates strong interdisciplinary approaches combining molecular biology, immunology, and aquaculture science.

Jaafar has served as a mentor for numerous Bachelor's and Master's students and has contributed to teaching in fish parasitology, bacteriology, immunology, and vaccinology. His research is conducted through the Laboratory of Aquatic Pathobiology and in collaboration with the Danish Fish Immunology Research Centre and Network (DAFINET).
