Ryuichi Yamamoto is a Professor at Waseda University's School of Political Science and Economics, specializing in finance and market microstructure. He received his Ph.D. in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University's International Business School in 2006 and previously taught at National Chengchi University in Taiwan for seven years before joining Waseda University in 2013.
His research focuses on empirical market microstructure, experimental finance, and agent-based finance in stock markets. Professor Yamamoto investigates conditions under which regulations on trading mechanisms and certain trading strategies, such as high-frequency trading, stabilize financial markets. He also examines possible causes of macroeconomic phenomena observed in actual stock markets, including bubbles and bursts, emphasizing the importance of trading protocols and strategic interactions among investors.
His scholarly output demonstrates consistent focus on market microstructure, with recent publications examining tick size effects, price discovery mechanisms, order submission behaviors, and predictor selection strategies. His work often utilizes unique datasets from the Tokyo Stock Exchange and employs both empirical and agent-based modeling approaches to understand financial market dynamics.
Professor Yamamoto has received multiple teaching awards at Waseda University and previously at National Chengchi University. His research has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including Best Paper awards at international finance conferences and an Outstanding Referee Award from the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control.
