Ryoya Terao is an Associate Professor of Video Production in the Department of Entertainment Technology at New York City College of Technology’s School of Technology & Design. Holding an MFA from Parsons School of Design, he is a documentary filmmaker whose work spans themes like social justice, historical reconciliation, and environmental issues. His films have aired on NHK, PBS, YesNetwork, and other platforms globally.
- Co-produced and directed documentaries such as "13 Driver’s Licenses," "Sled-Dog Dreams," and "Bamboo Bicycle"
- "13 Driver’s Licenses" received multiple best documentary awards
His research focuses on human-interest storytelling, exploring intersections of history, culture, and societal challenges through experimental films, narrative shorts, and documentaries.
Professor Terao’s work has been screened at international film festivals, and he has interviewed notable figures like Robert DeNiro, Julie Andrews, and Romeo Dallaire. His recent projects investigate Jewish life in Germany, environmental litigation, and immigrant experiences.
