Ryan Hsi

Ryan Hsi, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He completed his medical degree at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, followed by general surgery and urology residencies at University of Washington Medical Center, and a Laparoscopy & Endourology Fellowship at University of California San Francisco.

Dr. Hsi specializes in kidney stone disease and ultrasound imaging. His research includes:

• Genome-wide association studies linking UMOD gene to stone disease
• Machine learning frameworks for stone composition prediction
• Epidemiological studies connecting vascular disease and stone risk
• Pharmacological investigations of thiazide diuretics and proton pump inhibitors
• Clinical trials evaluating ultrasound propulsion techniques for stone management

Selected publications reveal his focus on improving diagnostic specificity through ultrasound techniques, including twinkling artifacts and shadow analysis. His work also examines optimal protocols for ureteroscopy recovery and antibiotic use in nephrolithotomy procedures.
