Ryan Fisher is a Professor of Biology at Salem State University, with a career spanning over two decades. Since 2019, he has focused on teaching introductory biology to non-majors, co-coordinating the Darwin Festival, and expanding the department's internship program. His academic journey includes chairing the Biology Department (2013-2019), leading curriculum reforms, and teaching courses like BIO 105 Biological Systems and BIO 419 Portfolio Seminar.
Research centers on meiobenthic ecology, particularly marine nematode communities in tropical seagrass meadows and mangrove habitats. He investigates nematode responses to environmental disturbances, symbiotic relationships with ciliates, and applications for detecting anthropogenic impacts. Recent work explores interactions between marine nematodes and Ilyanassa obsoleta (Eastern Mudsnail).
