Ryan Budney is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria (UVic). His research focuses on geometric topology, including manifolds, knot theory, and persistent homology. He explores spaces of embeddings, configuration spaces, and homotopy types of diffeomorphism groups. Recently, his work has involved cataloging the smallest triangulated smooth 4-manifolds and knotted 2-spheres in the 4-sphere. He also engages in applied topology, particularly persistent homology.

No scientific awards or grants are explicitly mentioned. His research is detailed in a UVic Faces of Research video, where he discusses applications of topology to geometric problems.
