Ryan Blackstock, PsyD, is a Core Faculty Member at the Michigan School of Psychology (MSP) since 2010, contributing to the Master’s Program. With 38 years in mental health and addiction treatment, he previously taught at Wayne State University, Henry Ford, Oakland, and Lansing Community College. His expertise spans addictions treatment, qualitative research methodologies (phenomenological, heuristic), and therapeutic applications of role-play group psychotherapy.
Education: PsyD in Humanistic Clinical Psychology (Center for Humanistic Studies), MA in Humanistic Clinical Psychology (Center for Humanistic Studies), BA in Psychology (Michigan State University). Licensed Psychologist in Michigan, Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC).
Research focuses on existential perspectives in addiction recovery, gaming’s therapeutic potential, and personality disorder interventions. Current projects include The Encounter Deck (therapy tool) and Psycho!Therapist (party game with therapeutic insights).
Recognized with the 1999 National Kidney Foundation Distinguished Service Award for pioneering substance abuse education in organ transplant candidates.
Teaching philosophy emphasizes integrating art and science, fostering lifelong curiosity through personalized learning and self-discipline. Advocates for experiential education to cultivate humanistic psychologists.
