Prof. Floris Rutjes is a Full Professor and Chair of Synthetic Organic Chemistry at Radboud University (Nijmegen, Netherlands), holding a part-time professorship at the University of Amsterdam (1999–2004). He has served in key administrative roles, including Director of the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM) and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science at Radboud University. He is actively involved in chemical societies, serving as President of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS) and President of the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society (KNCV).
His research focuses on synthetic organic chemistry, including flow chemistry, bio-conjugation, click-reactions, and catalysis, with an emphasis on bridging academic research to commercial applications. Over 15 years, his group has spun off six companies, four of which he co-founded. He played a pivotal role in establishing the national network of Innovation Labs (Chemielink) under the Topsector Chemistry initiative.
