Ruth Weissberger is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale University’s School of Medicine. She serves as Program Director of the Yale-Waterbury Internal Medicine Residency Program, a role she assumed in 2015 after being Associate Program Director since 2014. Her clinical and academic career spans over three decades, with a focus on cross-cultural medicine, health care disparities, and the intersection of medicine with creative writing.
Dr. Weissberger graduated from Brown University and Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College). She completed residency training in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Nephrology at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City. Her early career included roles as Medical Director at Fair Haven Community Health Center and Community Health Services in Hartford, alongside private practice. She joined the faculty of the Hospital of Saint Raphael Internal Medicine Residency Program in 2005 as a Clinician Educator, earning the Chairman’s Award for Service to Mission in 2009.
Her research interests emphasize reducing healthcare inequities and leveraging creative writing to enhance medical education and patient care. She authored the novel The Cure for Remembering, exploring medical narratives and ethical dilemmas in healthcare.
