Prof. Dr. Ruth Schwaiger serves as Institute Director of Structure and Function of Materials (IMD-1) at Forschungszentrum Jülich and holds a full professorship at RWTH Aachen University through the JARA-ENERGY alliance. She leads the Lehrstuhl für Werkstoffe der Energietechnik (Chair of Materials of Energy Technology) based at the Jülich Research Centre.
Her research focuses on developing and characterizing advanced materials for renewable energy systems, with particular emphasis on high-performance materials critical to energy generation, conversion, and storage technologies essential for the global energy transition. The IMD-1 institute under her leadership operates at the forefront of sustainable materials science research.
As Institutsdirektorin, she oversees research operations at Building 05.1, Room 108 in Jülich, Germany, directing scientific strategy for materials innovation in renewable energy applications through the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance framework.
