Russell Goodall is Professor of Metallurgy at the University of Sheffield's School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering, where he has been employed since 2008. He serves as Director of the EPSRC and SFI Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Metallic Systems. His academic background includes a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering and research at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.
Research Focus: Professor Goodall's work centers on fundamental alloy formation principles, with emphasis on discovering novel material combinations for applications in fusion energy and advanced joining technologies. Primary research domains include:
- Multicomponent and high-entropy alloy systems
- Metallurgical design for fusion reactor environments
- Brazing/soldering process development
- Nanomechanical characterization via nanoindentation
- Predictive modeling of phase stability
His publications demonstrate sustained focus on additive manufacturing of metallic systems, high-entropy alloy design, and advanced joining techniques, with particular emphasis on microstructure-property relationships under extreme conditions.
Awards & Recognition:
