Russell Buchanan

Russell Buchanan is an Assistant Professor of Intelligent Systems in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo since 2024. He leads the Robotic Interaction, Perception and Learning Lab, focusing on mobile robotics and perception systems.

• Education: DPhil in Engineering Science (University of Oxford, 2024), MSc in Robotics, Systems and Control (ETH Zurich, 2018), BEng in Electrical Engineering (McGill University, 2016).

Research Interests

• SLAM and state estimation for robots in vision-denied environments
• Deep learning applications in robotic perception
• Legged robot navigation in challenging real-world conditions
