Rupal Lovell-Patel is the Academic Lead for Vision Sciences at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), part of the School of Medicine and Dentistry. A registered Optometrist, she focuses on advancing professional practice and education standards within optometry. She graduated from the University of Bradford and began her academic career there as a Clinical Demonstrator before moving to Anglia Ruskin University in 2002, where she served as Principal Lecturer and Director of Clinics until 2018.
Her roles include Examiner for the College of Optometrists’ Final Assessment of the Scheme for Registration (OSCE), and she holds leadership positions in professional organizations such as the Careers in Optics working group and the European Academy of Optometry and Optics Education Committee. Rupal is also a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, recognizing her contributions to teaching excellence.
Her expertise spans optometric education, clinical training, and healthcare standards. UCLan’s Eye Health Clinic, which she is affiliated with, underscores her commitment to applied practice. She has been instrumental in ensuring UCLan’s optometry courses meet national educational benchmarks, as evidenced by recent institutional approvals and recognitions.
