Runlong Yu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at The University of Alabama's College of Engineering. He earned a B.Eng. (2017) and Ph.D. (2023) in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology of China. Prior to joining UA, he served as a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Pittsburgh.

His research focuses on advancing AI and data science for addressing complex scientific challenges, particularly through:
- Physics-guided machine learning models
- Foundation models for Earth-system analysis
- Retrieval-augmented AI frameworks
- Integration of multimodal datasets (remote sensing, simulations, in-situ measurements)
Applications span hydrology, aquatic systems, wildfire science, climate modeling, agriculture, and biomedicine. Recent work emphasizes autonomous AI agents that model coupled environmental, ecological, and social dynamics.
