Dr. Rui Chen (also known as Richard) is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials at the University of Adelaide, Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. He is eligible to co-supervise Masters and PhD students and is actively involved in cutting-edge research in nano-biomedicine and mRNA therapeutics.
His research focuses on the development and optimization of mRNA lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations for clinical applications, particularly in the context of cancer immunotherapy. With a strong background in chemistry and cancer immunology, Dr. Chen specializes in designing nanomaterials for targeted drug and gene delivery, validating these systems in vitro, and evaluating therapeutic efficacy in vivo.
His current work is primarily funded by a CRC-P grant project titled "mRNA manufacturing and formulation service for late-stage clinical trials," where he contributes to critical aspects including LNP quality assessment, formulation stability, bioprocessing optimization, and the development of ready-to-inject aqueous preparations that can be stored at 5 ± 3°C—enabling more practical clinical deployment.
Although no specific scientific awards or publications are listed in the profile, his research aligns with high-impact areas in pharmaceutical sciences and oncology. He plays a key role in translational research, aiming to bridge nano-biomedicine with clinical application. Dr. Chen is also involved in research supervision, supporting the training of future scientists in advanced therapeutic technologies.
He is part of a dynamic research environment within the School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials, contributing to interdisciplinary efforts in bioprocessing, nanotechnology, and cancer therapeutics. His work supports both academic advancement and industrial collaboration through grant-funded projects.
