Rufus Willett is a Professor and Chair at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, holding a PhD from Pennsylvania State University (2009) under adviser John Roe. His research focuses on noncommutative geometry, operator algebras, and geometric analysis. He joined the institution in 2011 and served as Associate Chair from 2019 to 2021. His work bridges algebraic topology, functional analysis, and geometric group theory, with notable contributions to UCT problems, Roe algebras, and index theory. His publications frequently address coarse geometry, K-theory, and controlled topological structures.
Research areas include noncommutative geometry, operator algebras, coarse geometry, and geometric analysis. His articles explore topics like controlled KK-theory, dynamic asymptotic dimension, and rigidity in uniform Roe algebras. Recent work emphasizes applications in C*-algebra classification and groupoid dynamics.
Willett has no listed advisees but maintains active collaborations in geometric analysis and noncommutative geometry. His office is PSB 410, with office hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
