Rudolf Winter-Ebmer serves as Department Chair of Economics and Chairman of the Kurt Rothschild School of Economics & Statistics (RoSES) at Johannes Kepler University Linz. He has held the department chair position since 2005 and was appointed Full Professor of Labor Economics in 2017. Additionally, he serves as President of the Austrian Economic Association since 2021 and sits on the Steering Committee of 'Verein für Socialpolitik.'
Winter-Ebmer's research focuses on empirical labor economics, personnel economics, social policy evaluation, education, aging, consumer behavior in internet markets, and industrial organization. His work frequently examines the intersection of labor markets with demographic changes, health economics, and technological transformation, with particular emphasis on gender differences and aging populations.
His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on contemporary labor market challenges, including the health effects of downsizing, gender wage gap dynamics, robotization impacts on job quality, and long-term outcomes of family disruptions. These works reflect his interdisciplinary approach that combines economic theory with rigorous empirical analysis of large-scale datasets.

Since 2011, he has co-headed the Christian Doppler Laboratory 'Aging, Health and the Labor Market' and has served as Country Team Leader for 'SHARE Austria' since 2003.
As an active public intellectual, Winter-Ebmer has contributed to numerous press articles from 2001-2026 in major Austrian publications including Der Standard, Die Presse, and OÖ Nachrichten, addressing critical economic issues such as labor market flexibility, gender wage gaps, aging populations, and policy responses to economic crises. His teaching responsibilities include Managerial Economics, Law and Economics, and supervision of multiple bachelor's thesis sections in Economics and Economic Psychology.
