Prof. Dr. Rudolf Mumenthaler is the Director of the University Library Zurich and serves as a Lecturer in Library Science at the University of Applied Sciences Grisons (Chur). He holds a Dr. phil. in History from the University of Zurich (1983–1995). His career includes roles as Director of the Central and University Library Lucerne (2017–2020) and Professor of Information Science at Chur University of Applied Sciences (2012–2017). Formerly, he was Head of Department at ETH Library (1997–2012).
His research focuses on library management, organizational development, open access initiatives, and the future of academic libraries. Key interests include institutional transformation, digital libraries, and the evolving role of public libraries in smart cities and civic spheres. He has published extensively on topics such as change management in libraries, educational program design, and innovation strategies in Swiss libraries.
