Rudi Beyaert

Rudi Beyaert is a Full Professor at Ghent University and a VIB Group Leader since 1997. He serves as Associate Department Director since 2009. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of immune signaling in inflammation, cancer, and autoimmune diseases. Key projects include studying MALT1 proteolytic activity in lymphocytes and epithelial cells, IL-33’s role in allergy, and novel metabolites like abscisic acid as anti-inflammatory agents. He leads the VIB Grand Challenge Program on Primary Immune Deficiency (PID), aiming to advance molecular diagnostics for PID patients.

Education: PhD in Molecular Biology from Ghent University (1992). Research spans immunology, structural biology, and systems biology, with emphasis on translational applications. His lab includes staff scientists, postdocs, and PhD students such as Aigerim Aidarova and Emma Vandevoorde. Notable recognition includes being named a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher in 2024.
