Rubén Castro Redondo is an Assistant Professor of Modern History at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. He holds a PhD in Modern History from USC (2018), awarded with international mention and the Extraordinary Prize. His research focuses on historical metrology, peasant resistance, and early modern administrative systems, with particular emphasis on Galicia and Castile.
He has conducted postdoctoral research at Sorbonne University and the University of Lisbon (2018–2019), and serves as coordinator of the History of Spain at EBAU (Cantabria, 2020–2023). He has authored/coordinated 5 books, published over 40 articles/chapters, and contributed to projects like the European-funded 'Resistance' initiative and Spain's 'Castillae Metrum' network. His personal research portal, Galicia Digital 1753, has garnered over 30,000 visits.
Key research areas include: historical measurement systems, conflicts over land/rents, spatial history using GIS, and early modern social movements. Awards include the Ferro Couselo (2016) and Taboada Chivite (2019) prizes. He is also part of Argentina’s 'PIMAMT' program on the Early Modern Atlantic World and evaluates grants for Spain’s Research Agency since 2022.
