Rubino Marcella is a Lecturer in Arabic studies at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) in Paris, France. Her academic work focuses on Arabic language, literary translation, and modern and contemporary Arabic literature, with particular emphasis on the Near and Middle East region. She serves as the L1 Literal Arabic Coordinator and Parcoursup Manager for L1 Literal Arabic, and is a member of the steering committee for Campus France's Arab scholarships.
Dr. Rubino's research expertise centers on modern literature from Egypt, Sudan, Iraq, and the Gulf region, with special attention to Arabic-language literature from Africa, novels and war, and the complex relationship between violence and religion in contemporary Arabic writing. She is affiliated with the CERMOM research team, contributing to studies on Middle Eastern and Mediterranean societies.
Her recent publications show a consistent focus on post-2000s Gulf and Sudanese literature, with particular attention to racial identity, ethnic representation, and political resistance in contemporary Arabic fiction. She has published extensively on authors like Yusuf Zaydan, Sinan Antoon, and Abdelaziz Baraka Sakin, analyzing their treatment of religious themes, violence, and cultural identity. Her work often bridges literary analysis with sociopolitical commentary, particularly regarding the Sudanese revolution and cultural spaces in Khartoum.
Dr. Rubino is actively involved in dissertation supervision and thesis jury work in literary translation and modern literature. She has previously served as Inalco Coordinator of preparation for the Arabic Aggregation (2019-2023) and as a jury member for both the Arabic Aggregation and the Agrégation de lettres modernes. Her teaching portfolio includes Literal Arabic (L1), Introduction to Modern Arabic Literature (L1), Modern Arabic Literature (L3), and Literary Translation (M1-M2), along with preparation for competitive examinations.
Her scholarly contributions extend to translation work, including French translations of Sudanese authors like Abdelaziz Baraka Sakin and Hammour Ziyada. She has participated in numerous academic conferences and seminars, presenting on topics ranging from race in Gulf novels to Sudanese literature in France and the translation of Arabic literary works.
