معرفی
Ruben Van Belle is a Researcher at the University of Oxford's Department of Computer Science, collaborating with Sam Staton. His research focuses on categorical probability, particularly applying category theory to foundational aspects of probability and measure theory. He completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh under Tom Leinster, with a thesis exploring categorical probability. Ruben holds the email ruben.van.belle@cs.ox.ac.uk.
Education:
- PhD in Mathematics, University of Edinburgh (supervised by Tom Leinster)
Research Interests: Categorical probability, measure theory, monads, and their applications in functional programming and safe AI. His work bridges abstract category theory with concrete problems in probability, such as Carathéodory extension theorems and Radon-Nikodym derivatives.
Talks and Presentations: He has delivered invited talks on categorical probability in Tokyo (2023) and contributed talks at international conferences like ACT2025 (Gainesville), PSSL2025 (Tallinn), and CT2023 (Louvain-la-Neuve). His presentations often emphasize applications to quantitative finance and stochastic processes.
Teaching:
- University of Oxford: Tutor for discrete/continuous mathematics (2023–present)
- University of Edinburgh: Tutored courses in proofs, calculus, linear algebra, and measure theory (2020–2023)
Labs/Teams: Engaged with the BLAST project at Oxford, focusing on categorical probability for safe AI systems.
