معرفی
Dr. RuAngelie Edrada-Ebel is a Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Analysis at the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Strathclyde, where she leads the Natural Products Metabolomics Group (NPMG). She has authored over 100 publications and holds two patents in marine natural products. Her research is highly collaborative, involving institutions such as Griffith University, University of São Paulo, GEOMAR, University of Aberdeen, and University College Cork.
- Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Biology, Julius Maximilians-University of Würzburg (1998)
- Master of Science in Pharmacy, University of the Philippines (1992)
Her research expertise lies in marine natural products, metabolomics, and the structure elucidation of bioactive secondary metabolites using NMR and mass spectrometry. She applies metabolomics to optimize the production of bioactive compounds from marine microorganisms and engages in dereplication studies to discover novel antibiotics. Her work addresses global challenges like antimicrobial resistance and sustainable drug discovery.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend in metabolomics-driven drug discovery, particularly from marine and microbial sources. Her work integrates advanced analytical techniques like LC-HR-MS and molecular networking to identify antimicrobial, antibiofilm, and anti-aging compounds. The research spans from Antarctic seaweeds to tropical plants, reflecting a broad geographical and chemical scope.
Dr. Edrada-Ebel has received several prestigious awards:
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2024)
- Thieme Award 2018 for Most Innovative Planta Medica Original Paper
- RMIT Foundation International Visiting Fellowship (2017)
She actively mentors researchers, hosts academic visitors, and serves as an editorial board member for Marine Drugs and peer reviewer for over 10 journals. Her research is funded through multiple projects as Principal Investigator, including collaborations with Scottish SMEs like Marine Biopolymers and BryoActives Ltd., supported by BBSRC, EPSRC, and KE-Hub. These projects focus on sustainable production of high-value compounds from marine sources.
She leads the Natural Products Metabolomics Group (NPMG), which employs advanced analytical tools and collaborates with national and international partners. The group’s work bridges academic research and industrial application, particularly in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
