Roya Khoshnevis is a cosmopolitan researcher and journalist specializing in petroculture studies, with a focus on Iran and the Persian Gulf. She earned her first MA in Postcolonial Literature from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and a second MA in Middle Eastern Studies from Leiden University, Netherlands. Her Ph.D. thesis from the University of Amsterdam’s School of Cultural Analysis (ASCA) examines petroleum modernity in Iranian fiction.

Her research explores the symbolic and cultural intersections of petroleum-driven modernization with literature, particularly in modern Iranian fiction. She is currently investigating Tehran as an "Invisible Oil City" and working on two book agreements in Iran. Her journalistic work centers on energy ethics and energy humanities, contributing to Iranian daily newspapers.
As a researcher, her work bridges postcolonial theory, Middle Eastern studies, and petroculture frameworks. She has lived and worked across Southeast Asia, Europe, and the USA over the past 15 years, maintaining an interdisciplinary approach to cultural and literary analysis.
