Dr. Roy H. Hamilton is a Professor of Neurology, Psychiatry, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where he serves as Vice Dean for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity and directs the Laboratory for Cognition and Neural Stimulation.
His educational background includes:
- MD from Harvard University Medical School
- MS in Health Sciences Technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Neurology Residency at University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine
- Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Fellowship at University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine
Dr. Hamilton's research defines mechanisms of functional plasticity in the human brain using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to study cognition and develop therapies for post-stroke cognitive deficits and neurodegenerative dementias. He actively advances diversity, inclusion, and health equity initiatives through his leadership roles.
As director of the Laboratory for Cognition and Neural Stimulation, he leads research on brain stimulation techniques to reorganize neural representations for cognitive rehabilitation in neurological disorders.
