Roy A. Briere is a Professor of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Physics, part of the Mellon College of Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago (1995). His research focuses on high-energy particle physics, particularly flavor physics, CP violation, and weak interactions. He has been involved with major experiments including BelleII at KEK (Japan) and BESIII at BEPCII (China), contributing to studies of B and D meson decays. He has served in leadership roles such as co-spokesperson for the CLEO collaboration (2005–2007).
Research interests include precision measurements of particle decays, detector calibration (e.g., dE/dx particle identification in drift chambers), and software infrastructure for data analysis. Key contributions include work on CP violation in neutral kaons during his PhD and later studies of charm physics at CLEO and BESIII. Awards include the APS Outstanding Referee (2009) and Sugarman Award (1994).
His academic career at CMU spans from 1999, progressing through Assistant to Full Professor with tenure since 2006. Current roles include editorial work for BESIII publications and leadership in experimental particle physics collaborations.
