Rothin Datta serves as Assistant Professor of Political Science at Macalester College, where his research critically examines the relationship between theoretical scholarship, power structures, and the naturalization of social relations under racial capitalism.
His academic credentials include:
- BA in Political Science and Critical Theory from Macalester College
- PhD in Political Science with emphasis on Political Theory from Johns Hopkins University
Core research domains span political theory, value-form theory, history of economic thought, labor politics, and social reproduction theory, with explicit focus on racial capitalism and critical theoretical frameworks. His scholarly approach interrogates how power dynamics shape social subjectivities within capitalist systems.
Datta teaches courses covering political theory, capitalism, and the works of Karl Marx and Michel Foucault, and will lead the Chuck Green Civic Engagement Fellowship in Spring 2025.
He actively contributes to institutional governance through service on the steering committees for both the Critical Theory concentration and the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies department.
