Rossana Galdini is an Associate Professor of Sociology of Environment and Territory at the Department of Social and Economic Sciences, Faculty of Political Sciences, Sociology and Communication, Sapienza University of Rome. She teaches courses including Sociology of Environment and Territory, Urban Sustainability, and Urban Regeneration: Research and Practice in the Master's program in Sociology for Sustainability and Global Processes (Sosag).
Her research focuses on urban regeneration processes, reuse of urban spaces, urban sustainability, relationship between sociology and architectural design, housing issues, informality and social practices, public spaces, cultural policies, cultural heritage, and the New European Bauhaus initiative. She examines how temporary uses, community-led initiatives, and innovative approaches transform urban spaces, with case studies from Rome, Berlin, and other European cities.
Professor Galdini's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on urban informality, sustainable urban development, and regeneration practices. Her work frequently explores the relationship between formal and informal urban processes and how community-driven initiatives can inform urban policy. She actively contributes to the discourse on the New European Bauhaus and sustainable urban transitions.
She serves on Sapienza's Scientific Research Committee and the Sapiexcellence Committee, and coordinates the International Observatory on Urban Studies and Social Research 'Urbs & Civitas.' She is the Principal Investigator and scientific coordinator of the Horizon Europe 2024 project 'Sustainable Transition Action-Research-Training in Urban Perspectives (S.T.A.R.T.U.P.)' focused on the New European Bauhaus.
Professor Galdini maintains extensive international collaborations with institutions including Technical University Berlin, Stockholm University, University of Technology Bratislava, Complutense University of Madrid, and others. She has directed multiple research projects on urban regeneration, temporary uses of space, and sustainable urban development.
