Ross Collin is a Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Education. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. in English and Education from the University of Iowa.
His research examines how literary study in schools cultivates moral perception and imagination, framing reading education as moral education. Collin's work integrates classroom experiences from his time teaching in West Chicago with contemporary pedagogical approaches to ethics and literature.
Collin's articles consistently explore intersections between literary analysis and ethical frameworks, with recent work examining moral dimensions of animal representation in literature, critiques of standardized testing, and models for ethical literary pedagogy. His scholarship demonstrates sustained engagement with moral philosophy through the lens of English education.
He maintains active engagement with practicing educators through workshops on implementing ethical frameworks in literature curricula and advises graduate students in curriculum development.
