Rositca Nikolova

Rositca Nikolova serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Organic Chemistry and Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". The department, founded in 1889, represents one of the oldest academic units in Bulgarian chemical education and research.

Her department conducts extensive research across multiple organic chemistry domains, with particular emphasis on Organic Synthesis, Natural Organic Compounds, Structure and Reactivity of Organic Compounds, and advanced analytical techniques including NMR Spectrometry and Mass Spectrometry. The department maintains specialized research facilities such as the Organic Photochemistry Group and NMR Laboratory, supporting both fundamental research and practical applications in pharmaceutical sciences.

Under Prof. Nikolova's leadership, the department participates in significant research initiatives including collaborations with faculty members who present findings at international conferences such as the Blue Danube Symposium on Heterocyclic Chemistry and International Caparica Conference on Chromogenic and Emissive Materials. The department's research output appears in reputable journals including Sensors and Dyes and Pigments.

As department head, Prof. Nikolova oversees academic programs, coordinates research activities, manages departmental resources including laboratory facilities, and represents the department within university administration and to external partners while maintaining the department's tradition of excellence in chemical education since its founding.
