Rosina M. Georgiadis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Boston University. Her research focuses on developing experimental tools to characterize biomolecular binding at surfaces and in solution, employing techniques such as surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy, surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensing, and microscale thermophoresis (MST). She also investigates electronic structure at electrochemical interfaces using non-linear optics. Prof. Georgiadis is renowned for her innovative teaching methods, including the development of cloud-enabled lab courses that allow student access to instrument software from anywhere. This approach was recognized with the 2019 Gerald and Deanne Gitner Family Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology.
Her educational contributions include pioneering the CH303 advanced instrumental methods course and integrating virtual machines for lab instruction. These innovations were highlighted in Chemical & Engineering News (2017) and Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry (2018). She holds a B.S. in Chemistry (with Honors) from Indiana University (1982) and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley (1988).
Research interests span biomolecular dynamics, nanoparticle interactions, and surface chemistry. Her work bridges fundamental science with practical applications in diagnostics and instrumentation. She is currently scaling her cloud-based teaching model to other disciplines and institutions, emphasizing accessibility and equity in STEM education.
Awards include the Gitner Award (2019) and recognition at Boston University’s Celebration of Teaching, Research, and Scholarship. Her lab, the Georgiadis Group, collaborates on interdisciplinary projects involving bioanalytical methods and educational technology.
