University of Maryland Eastern Shoreمعرفی
Dr. Rosemary Jagus is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET), University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES). She holds the endowed USM Elkins Professorship of Marine Biotechnology (2017-present) and coordinates the NOAA-LMRCSC summer internship program. Her research focuses on translational control mechanisms in diverse eukaryotes, including dinoflagellates, zebrafish, and crustaceans.
Education: Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University College London (1976), M.S. in Zoology from University College of North Wales (1971).
Research interests include:
- Regulation of protein synthesis during stress and viral infection
- Evolution of translational machinery in protists
- Host-virus interactions in marine organisms
- Adaptation of fish to environmental challenges
Publications span molecular mechanisms of translation initiation, dinoflagellate biology, and stress responses in marine species. She has contributed chapters and edited volumes on translational machinery evolution.
Awards: USM Elkins Professorship (2017-present).
Leadership: Coordinates LMRCSC internships, mentors students in marine biotechnology, and collaborates on harmful algal bloom research.
