Dr. Rose Cairns is a Senior Lecturer and NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow at the Sydney School of Pharmacy, University of Sydney. She also serves as Senior Poisons Specialist (Research and Audit) at the NSW Poisons Information Centre, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Her research focuses on clinical toxicology, pharmacovigilance, and reducing poisoning-related harm through policy analysis and epidemiological studies.
Dr. Cairns holds a BPharm (Hons I) and PhD from the University of Sydney. Her research has addressed methotrexate dosing errors, codeine scheduling impacts, and poisonings in vulnerable populations such as children and dementia patients. She collaborates with national and international networks like TAPNA and EAPCCT.
Her recent work includes analyzing trends in paracetamol poisoning, opioid exposures, and psychotropic drug misuse. Publications highlight policy-driven changes in medication safety and the role of poisons centers in preventing hospitalizations.
