Rosanna Farbøl is an Associate Professor of contemporary European history at the University of Oslo. Her research focuses on the intersection of society and war, particularly during the Cold War, emphasizing socio-technical imaginaries, nuclear culture, and memory studies. She holds a Ph.D. from Aarhus University (2016) and has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Southern Denmark and Lund University.
Her academic interests include civil defense strategies, urban history, and the materiality of conflict. She co-leads the MELICA project at Aarhus University, exploring Cold War urban structures through computational methods. Farbøl is also involved in public engagement, contributing to media discussions and lectures on historical topics.
Key awards include the Golden Plough Teacher of the Year (AU) and the Danish Historical Book of the Year 2018 for her work Cold Warriors, Medløbere og Røde Lejesvende. Her research spans interdisciplinary approaches, incorporating Science and Technology Studies with architectural and design methodologies.
Farbøl advises on projects such as the Atomic Warfare, Risk Modalities, and Civil Defense Emergency Planning in Denmark (2024–present). She has published extensively on Cold War preparedness, nuclear culture, and the legacy of conflict in urban spaces, with over 15 peer-reviewed articles and edited volumes since 2011.
