Professor Rosalind Malcolm is a Professor of Law and Director of the Environmental Regulatory Research Group (ERRG) at the University of Surrey's Surrey Law School. She specializes in environmental law, focusing on regulatory frameworks for environmental management, ecodesign laws, and governance of plastics waste. Her work addresses the intersection of law, policy, and interdisciplinary collaboration to tackle 'wicked problems' like plastic pollution and water rights in developing countries. She chairs the Special Interest Group on Plastics in the Environment and teaches modules such as UK and European Environmental Law, Food Safety Law, and Statutory Nuisance Law.
Her research emphasizes operationalizing rights to water and sanitation, property rights in environmental media, and multidisciplinary approaches to environmental governance. She supervises PhD students in environmental law and has led projects like the 2019–2021 study on environmental regulatory frameworks. Her contributions span legal education, policy analysis, and practical solutions for sustainable development.
Professor Malcolm holds a PhD and is a Barrister. She advocates for cross-disciplinary solutions to environmental challenges, integrating legal frameworks with social and natural science perspectives.
