Dr. Ronelle Roth is an Associate Professor in Cell and Molecular Plant Biology at the University of Oxford and a Tutorial Fellow at Worcester College. She holds a Royal Society University Research Fellowship. Her work focuses on arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi symbiosis, critical for sustainable agriculture by enhancing plant nutrient uptake and reducing chemical fertilizer reliance.
Her research explores extracellular vesicles' roles in nutrient and signal exchange between plant roots and AM fungi, using advanced imaging and genetic tools. She also investigates small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) modulating symbiotic outcomes. Roth’s lab integrates molecular genetics, 'omics, and bioinformatics to study dynamic arbuscule lifespans and symbiotic crosstalk.
Key achievements include discovering EV accumulation near arbuscules (Roth et al., 2019) and identifying novel siRNA roles in AM symbiosis. Her work aims to improve crop productivity via natural biofertilizers.
