Ronald E. Osborn is a Professor of Ethics and Philosophy at La Sierra University and an adjunct professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Southern California. He serves as Executive Director of The John Henry Weidner Foundation for Altruism. Osborn holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Southern California (2012), an M.S. from the School of Oriental & African Studies (2005), and an M.A. from St. John’s College in Maryland (2002). His research spans ethics, philosophy, political science, theology, and human rights. He has conducted fieldwork in regions like Kosovo, Guinea, Sudan, Peru, and East Timor, and his work integrates academic rigor with humanitarian advocacy.
Osborn’s publications include Humanism and the Death of God: Searching for the Good After Darwin, Marx, and Nietzsche (Oxford University Press, 2017), Death Before the Fall: Biblical Literalism and the Problem of Animal Suffering (IVP Academic, 2014), and Anarchy and Apocalypse (Cascade Books, 2010). His articles address topics ranging from onto-theology to contemporary political ideologies. He has received a U.S. Fulbright Scholarship to Burma/Myanmar and a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in Peace and Justice Studies at Wellesley College.
His research interests include the intersection of religion, ethics, and global politics. He has written on figures like Ronald Dworkin, Noam Chomsky, and historical movements such as Nazi-era resistance networks. His recent work, A Good Man in Dark Times, explores the life of WWII resistance leader John Weidner. Osborn’s fieldwork and writings emphasize practical engagement with humanitarian challenges and ethical decision-making in complex environments.
