Ronald Maier

Ronald Maier is a Professor for Information and Knowledge Management at the School of Management, University of Innsbruck, Austria. He has held this position since February 2007, following previous appointments at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg (2002-2007) and as Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia (1998-1999). His academic credentials include a PhD in Management Information Systems from WHU and a habilitation from the University of Regensburg.

Maier's research focuses on collaboration engineering, connectivity, crowdsourcing, digital change, and knowledge management. His work explores knowledge maturation processes, idea convergence techniques, and knowledge protection in networked settings. He has developed theoretical frameworks like the Knowledge Appropriation Model and KEP model for workplace learning.

His recent publications (2022-2025) show a strategic shift toward human-AI collaboration, examining generative conversational AI's impact on team dynamics and work practices. Earlier work established foundations in crowdsourcing, idea convergence, and knowledge maturation, with publications in top journals like Journal of Management Information Systems and Computers in Human Behavior.

Maier has led work packages in major EU projects including KnowCom, MATURE, ARISTOTELE, POSECCO and LAYERS.
