Ronald Coase (1910-2013) was a Nobel Laureate economist affiliated with the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. His groundbreaking work on transaction costs and property rights revolutionized economic theory. Coase authored seminal papers including "The Nature of the Firm" (1937) which founded transaction cost economics, and "The Problem of Social Cost" (1961) which established the Coase Theorem. He served as coeditor of the Journal of Law and Economics and received the Nobel Prize in 1991 for his contributions to institutional economics.
Research Focus: Institutional structures, transaction cost analysis, property rights frameworks, and economic governance mechanisms.
Honors & Legacy: Founded the Ronald Coase Institute (2000) and authored How China Became Capitalist (2012). Recognized posthumously as one of history's most influential economists.
