Rona Michie

Rona Michie is a Senior Knowledge Exchange and Research Fellow at the European Policies Research Centre (EPRC) in Delft and Glasgow, affiliated with the University of Strathclyde. Her work focuses on EU Cohesion Policy implementation, sustainable energy transitions from coal-dependent economies, and financial instruments for regional development across Europe.

Her research expertise spans State aid regulations, innovative business aids in European regions, Structural Fund programme impact analysis, and innovation in peripheral areas. She actively contributes to knowledge exchange through the EIB's fi-compass platform and comparative analysis of decades-long Cohesion policy implementation. Recent projects include leading EPRC's Horizon 2020 TRACER contribution for nine European coal-transition regions and co-developing the NICE network for industrial cluster transformation.

Current publications reveal concentrated focus on regional subsidy control mechanisms and circular economy policy integration, demonstrating consistent alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals for sustainable energy and industry. Her work bridges academic research with practitioner-oriented policy tools for EU managing authorities.

Michie serves as Research Co-investigator for the Scottish Government's 'Regional Policy in Europe: A Comparative Assessment' project (2025) and Technician for 'COMMIT: Low-Carbon SME Development and Transition' (2024-2028). She previously edited the European Structural and Investment Funds journal (2013-2019) and organizes key conferences like the NICE network events on SME development and skills transition.
