Rona Frederick

Dr. Rona Frederick serves as Associate Professor of Urban Educational Leadership in Morgan State University's Department of Advanced Studies, Leadership and Policy within the School of Education and Urban Studies (SEUS). With over 20 years of experience spanning K-16 teaching, charter school co-founding, and academic leadership, she implements culturally responsive methodologies to address systemic challenges in Black education from early childhood through adult learning contexts.

Her academic foundation includes:

• B.S. in Psychology from Hampton University
• M.P.S. in Africana Studies from Cornell University
• Ph.D. in Teacher Education & Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland, College Park

Dr. Frederick's research centers on culturally responsive teaching frameworks and African-centered educational models, with emphasis on evidence-based practices for students of African descent. She employs mixed-methods evaluation approaches to advance program quality in schools and community organizations, significantly contributing to discourse on educational equity through both scholarly and community-engaged work.

Her 2023 publication 'A Soul-Centered Approach to Educating Teachers' exemplifies her focus on Black education networks and culturally sustaining pedagogy, spanning interdisciplinary domains including teacher development and social justice education. This work reflects her consistent scholarly trajectory addressing systemic barriers in educational settings.

Dr. Frederick co-founded both a charter school and Saturday school initiative while co-facilitating the Washington, D.C. Educational Policy and Leadership Program (DC EPFP).
