Ronald Lasser is a Professor of the Practice in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Tufts School of Engineering, concurrently holding a position in Tisch College. He brings over 30 years of industrial experience, focusing on product realization, innovation, and strategic technology portfolios. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S./B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, complemented by executive education in Strategic Marketing at Harvard Business School.
His research interests span digital image processing, computer animation, swarm robotics, and engineering design methodologies. He has pioneered courses like Engineering Entrepreneurship and Societal Aspects of Design through Tufts Innovates! grants. Notable accolades include the Henry and Madeline Fischer Award for Teaching Excellence (2009-2022) and the President's Award from GSI Lumonics (1999).
Ron has advised companies globally on strategic technology portfolios and served as Director of Engineering at General Scanning. His teaching spans linear systems theory, senior/junior design projects, and electrical systems. He mentors at EForAll, promoting entrepreneurship in mid-sized cities.
Recent publications emphasize educational innovation and design methodologies, reflecting his dual focus on academic and practical engineering challenges. His work bridges industrial experience with academic rigor, influencing both curricula and industry practices.
