Roman Osharov is a DPhil Candidate at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of History and a non-stipendiary Lecturer at New College. His research focuses on the Russian Empire’s production of knowledge about Central Asia and its environmental history, with a regional emphasis on the South Caucasus during 1801–1917. He has conducted archival research across Eurasia and presented his work at international conferences and workshops, including those at Harvard University and Columbia University’s Harriman Institute.
His research interests lie at the intersection of Global & Imperial History, Trans-Imperial Exchange, and Environmental History, exploring how imperial powers documented and interacted with regions like Central Asia and the Caucasus. He has contributed to outreach initiatives such as the CAPS Unlock podcast and organized interdisciplinary workshops for graduate researchers.
Roman previously studied at King’s College London and will soon join University College Dublin as a European Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow.
