معرفی
Roman Engel-Herbert is a Professor of Experimental Physics/Material Sciences at Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany, where he also serves as Director of the Paul Drude Institute. He maintains an affiliate role as Associate Professor in Materials Science and Engineering at Penn State University. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Physics from Humboldt University Berlin and a Diploma in Physics from Friedrich-Schiller University Jena.
Research Focus: Engel-Herbert leads pioneering work in oxide thin film synthesis using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), with emphasis on the 'Hybrid MBE' technique. His research explores interface phenomena in heteroepitaxial oxides, integration of oxides with semiconductors, and nanoscale magnetic domain dynamics. These efforts target applications in energy harvesting (thermoelectrics, photovoltaics) and information technologies (non-volatile memory, logic devices).
Awards and Honors:
- NSF CAREER Award (2014)
- Rustum & Della Roy Innovation Award (2014)
- Feodor-Lynen Fellowship (2008-2009)
- Carl Ramsauer Award (2006)
Leadership: As Director of the Paul Drude Institute, he oversees research in solid-state electronics and cross-institutional collaborations.
