Dr. Romain Thomas serves as the Head of Research Software Engineering at the University of Sheffield's School of Computer Science. His role involves leading a team of research software engineers (RSEs) collaborating with university research groups to develop high-quality research software. Previously, he was a Staff Astronomer at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chile, where he led software projects for data quality control at the Very Large Telescopes.
His research interests focus on software engineering practices, open-source technologies, open research initiatives, FAIR data principles, and data management strategies. Romain holds an Orcid ID: 0000-0001-8385-3276.
