Romain Alléaume is a Professor at Télécom Paris, part of Institut Polytechnique de Paris, where he works in the Information Processing and Communication Laboratory (LTCI) within the Computer Science and Networks Department. He leads the Quriosity research team focused on quantum information processing and quantum communications.
His educational background includes a PhD from University Paris VI and ENS Cachan (2004) on experimental quantum cryptography with single-photon sources, where he was co-recipient of La Recherche magazine's scientific prize.
Professor Alléaume's research centers on quantum information and quantum cryptography, with particular emphasis on optical quantum communications and quantum key distribution (QKD). His current work focuses on three main areas: quantum coherent optical communications (especially continuous-variable QKD), hybrid (quantum/computational) security models that offer long-term security guarantees, and quantum information processing with multimode photonic technologies leveraging telecom industry components.
His recent publications analyze critical limitations in quantum communication technologies and vulnerability assessments of QKD systems, reflecting his focus on practical implementation challenges and security validation.

Professor Alléaume actively supervises numerous PhD students and teaches courses on quantum computing, quantum information, and cryptography. He coordinates the Quantum Mathematics and Computer Science (QMI) Master 2 program and contributes to the ARTeQ inter-institution degree. His research group is involved in multiple European projects including Quantum Secure Networks Partnership (QSNP) and the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure initiative. The Quriosity team he leads is developing new communication systems for quantum networks and working on hybrid cryptography that combines classical computational methods with quantum approaches.
