Rolf Noyer is an Associate Professor of Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Linguistics, housed within the College of Arts & Sciences. He is affiliated with the Institute for Research in Cognitive Science. His research focuses on theoretical linguistics, including Morphology, Phonology, and Generative Metrics, with a specialization in the Huave and Mansi languages. He leads the Comparative-Historical Dictionary of the Huave Language project, a collaborative database preserving dialectal variants and historical records of Huave. Courses taught include The Sound Structure of Language and seminars on Morphology/Phonology.
His work integrates fieldwork (e.g., data from San Dionisio/San Francisco/Santa María/San Mateo del Mar dialects) with theoretical frameworks, emphasizing language documentation and cultural preservation. The dictionary project aims to create educational tools (e.g., games, linked texts) for Huave communities while systematically comparing dialects and historical sources.
