Prof. Dr. Roland Wiesendanger leads the Nanostructure and Solid State Physics research group at the University of Hamburg, affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences and the Department of Physics. His group collaborates with institutions such as the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center Hamburg (INCH), Cluster of Excellence 'Advanced Imaging of Matter', and Sonderforschungsbereich 925. He has received three ERC Advanced Grants (FURORE, ASTONISH, ADMIRE) and participates in NSF-funded networks.
- Research Focus: Nanoscale science using scanning probe methods (STM, AFM, MFM), exploring atomic spins, topological systems, graphene, and hybrid quantum devices.
- Students: Mentored PhD candidates including Jasmin Bedow, Dhavalkumar Mungpara, and Lucas Schneider.
- Scientific Awards: ERC Advanced Grants (2008, 2013, 2018), NSF excellence network partnership (2007).
