Roland W. Fleming

Prof. Roland W. Fleming is the Kurt Koffka Professor of Experimental Psychology at the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science, Justus Liebig University Giessen. He also serves as Executive Vice Director of the Center For Mind, Brain and Behaviour and as Director of the Excellence Cluster 'The Adaptive Mind'.

• Interdisciplinary research on visual perception of materials and objects
• Combines psychophysics, neural modeling, and computer graphics

Research Interests focus on how the brain estimates physical properties of objects from visual cues. His work analyzes:

• Material properties (gloss, translucency, elasticity)
• Shape perception through orientation fields
• Computational models of visual perception
• Human interaction with deformable materials

Scientific Contributions include:

• Developing ShapeComp model for shape similarity
